Water weekly during the summer and switch to every 8-10 days during winter. Give this Ficus some vertical space because she sure loves growing tall.
Light and humidity
Rubber plants like bright light and a lot of it, but not direct sunlight as this can tarnish the vibrancy of the leaves. During the summer you should keep the soil moist and occasionally mist the leaves to add more humidity to them. The more light this plant gets, the more vibrant the maroon color of the leaves!

Soil and Fertilizer
The Ficus Rubber Plant doesn’t like to sit in water so be sure to get a well-drained potting mix and pot. Fertilize spring – fall, but not during their dormant period over winter.
Cleaning and Pruning
You will have to get ready for pruning as the Ficus loves vertical growth and intense branching out when not fully cared for. Gently wipe off leaves with a clean, damp cloth to keep them looking fresh.
Propagating the Ficus Elastica Burgundy Tree
Cut a piece of your rubber tree and strip the bottom 3-5” of leaves. Dip the end into root hormone powder and place in fresh, well-draining soil. Roots will begin to grow within a few weeks.
Repotting can occur every 12-18 months. Choose a pot 1-2” larger than the current container and repot during the growing months, not winter (if it can be avoided). Some shock will occur, so keep an eye out for any changes but give your tree a chance to settle.

The leaves are a rubbery texture and have a lovely gloss to them that looks too good to be real, but it is! Large rounded leaves spring out of the stems with space in between that gives it a full tropical charm when it reaches maturity. No matter where you place the Ficus Rubber Plant it will certainly be the new focal point of any room!
